At a party given by a colleague from the Central School, he was approached by Tomás Maldonado, Director of the Ulm School of Design, and offered a job acting as a bridge between two rival factions at the school – ‘scientists’ and ‘artists’.
Faculty and students included such notable designers as Tomás Maldonado and Peter Seitz.
Born in Schwabmünchen, Germany in 1931, Seitz graduated from Ulm Hochschule für Gestaltung (Ulm University of Design, HfG) with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication in 1959, after studying with graphic designers Tomás Maldonado, Max Bill, and Otl Aicher.
Between 1964 and 1967, in collaboration with his German colleague Gui Bonsiepe he created a system of codes for the design program of the Italian firm Olivetti and the department store La Rinascente.
