After completing work toward his M.S. in Astronomy Vanderbilt University, he was awarded a one-year internship at the Strasenburgh Planetarium in Rochester, New York.
An architectural design by Robert Napier, then a student at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, included a detached planetarium building at the corner of East Avenue and Goodman Street, just west of the main Museum building.
It was adapted for the Strasenburgh Planetarium in Rochester, New York in 1969, under the direction of Ian C. McLennan.
