1889–90 St. Mary's F.C. season

C. William "Bill" Measures was a soldier who played for the Geneva Cross team from Netley Hospital, although, as an amateur, he was also able to play for St. Mary's.

Netley Hospital

In 1864 a Portland stone memorial was erected, dedicated to the members of the Army Medical Department who died in the Crimean War.


George Findlater

Findlater was evacuated to Rawalpindi where he was treated, and unable to continue in the Army as a result of his injuries, he was sent to Netley Hospital to convalesce.

Netley

It is flanked on the one side by the ruins of Netley Abbey and on the other by the Royal Victoria Country Park, which is the site of the old Royal Victoria Military Hospital (or Netley Hospital); built after the Crimean War, and used extensively from 1863 through to World War II.

T. Price

Price started his career playing for Geneva Cross, a team from the Royal Victoria Military Hospital at Netley.
