The landscaped gardens surrounding the school feature a variety of trees including Beeches, Tulip trees, Oaks (American and evergreen), Atlas Cedars and Wellingtonia.
The Calico Scale is a pest to many trees in the United States, including dogwoods, honey locust, magnolias, maples, sweetgums and fruit trees.
The tulip tree is sometimes referred to as "tulip poplar" or "yellow poplar", and the wood simply as "poplar", although Liriodendron is not closely related to the true poplars either.
Besides the beachfront, its other features are its mesophytic forest with four co-dominant species, including both northern hemlock and southern tulip trees, an ample population of trillium seen in spring, and Deer Creek which winds its way through a common ravine area out to the lake.

Davie Poplar is a large tulip poplar tree, approximately 300-375 years old, located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, named in honor of Revolutionary War general and founder of the University William Richardson Davie.
Of note is the presence of non-native, borderline hardiness trees, such as the Tulip Tree, which thrive in small section of Senneville near the Île aux Tourtes Bridge.
