7 unusual facts about Moscow Aviation Institute


Avion MAI F-1

It was designed and built by the Avion Group together with Moscow Aviation Institute specialists.

BB-MAI

Designed in 1939 by Pyotr Grushin of the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI, hence the designation), it was delayed by problems with the new Klimov M-105 engine and eventually only a single prototype was built.

Kosmopoisk

In 1980, Chernobrov and his colleagues from the Moscow Aviation Institute created the group whose objectives were to collect information about UFOs and anomalous events in the Soviet Union, to develop a Lovondatr device (aka "time car"), and to send expeditions to explore the most promising anomalous zones.

MAI Kvant

The MAI Kvant (also known as the MAI-SKB-3PM) was a Soviet aerobatic trainer designed by students at the Moscow Aviation Institute.

Sh-Tandem

Designed by Peter Grushin at the Moscow Aviation Institute (hence the MAI designation), the aeroplane featured an unusual tandem wing, with the tail planes as large as 45% of the wing area.

One of the latter was Sh-Tandem designed by Pyotr Dmitrievich Grushin at the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI).

Viktor Abramov

Abramov graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute with a specialty as an "engineer-economist", and in 2004 was a member of the Federation Council of Russia representing Tver Oblast.
