Botica joined the Wigan rugby league club in British league in 1990 in what was an exodus of All Black backs to rugby league including Matthew Ridge (Manly-Warringah), John Gallagher (Leeds) and John Schuster Newcastle).
Born in Rugby, Warwickshire, Lomas took up speedway at a Coventry training school and after being signed by Coventry Bees was loaned out to Weymouth Wildcats in two Division Two of the British League in 1968, also riding for his parent club in one league match that year.
Following the decision of the British League promoters in November 1967 to run a second division, five promoters from the British League, Danny Dunton, Maury Littlechild, Len Silver, Ron Wilson and Reg Fearman formed the Allied Presentations Limited.
The club were responsible for bringing Slovenian Matej Žagar into British League Scene in 2003 and he firmly established himself as one of the Premier League's top riders.
